AIVA is an AI music-generation assistant built around compositions that can be edited and exported. A creator can start from a style, supply an eligible audio or MIDI influence and develop the resulting material into a soundtrack. The key decision is both creative and commercial: whether the generated composition is a useful starting point, and whether the chosen plan grants the rights needed for the finished project.
- 01The offer An AI music assistant for generating compositions that can be developed into a finished arrangement.
- 02The reader Creators who want editable musical material and can match the subscription to the intended use.
- 03The evidence Current public pages and help articles were read; no composition was generated or listening test performed.
01 / ProductMusic generation with an editable composition at its centre
The product page describes style-based generation, custom style models and audio or MIDI influences. AIVA is operated by AIVA Technologies SARL, whose company page describes a focus on personalised soundtracks. It is a distinct company identity, rather than a separate listing for every style or generation mode inside the application.
The distinction between MIDI and finished audio is useful. MIDI describes musical events that another instrument or digital audio workstation can render; an audio file contains the resulting sound. A creator might accept the harmonic structure of a generated composition but change the instrumentation, timing or mix. That makes export flexibility relevant to the creative workflow, not simply a checkbox on a subscription comparison.
The format guide lists MP3, orchestrated and reduced MIDI, WAV and stems, plus chord text. The actual formats available depend on the plan. Stems and MIDI can support further production, but they do not mean every generated result arrives as a finished soundtrack. Arrangement, pacing and the relationship with dialogue still need a musical and editorial decision.
02 / AudienceA fit for creators who want to shape the result
AIVA is worth examining for a creator making an instrumental bed, a game prototype or a short film cue who wants to revise the music after generation. The useful question is whether its output makes the next stage of composition easier. A producer with a specific instrumental palette may value editable notes more than a fully rendered track that is difficult to rearrange.
Suno offers a relevant comparison for another approach to generative music, while Udio provides a second route to examine. Compare the intended output, editing path and current commercial rights, rather than assuming all AI music subscriptions sell an equivalent licence. AIVA’s own plan distinctions are particularly important when the same composition could appear in a monetised social video, an advertisement or a game.
A team that needs a precisely timed commissioned score may still need a composer or music editor. Generation can supply ideas without taking responsibility for how the cue supports the story. For example, a scene may need a deliberate change of tension at the moment a speaker pauses. A track that sounds appealing in isolation can distract from that moment. Evaluate against the actual picture or interactive sequence.
03 / WorkflowProposed workflow: develop a short instrumental cue
This is a proposed use of the documented capabilities, not a tested AIVA session. Begin with a short visual sequence and mark the points where the music should enter, change and end. Decide which instruments and emotional direction suit the scene. Use a stock style as the first experiment so the team can judge the workflow before introducing an uploaded influence and its additional rights considerations.
Generate a small set of candidates and listen against the picture. Select a composition because its structure supports the scene, not because it sounds the most elaborate. Export a format permitted by the account. If the next step is changing the notes or instruments, use the available MIDI route; if the goal is mixing existing parts, check the available stem or audio export. Keep the original and the edited version clearly labelled.
In the editing stage, revise the entrance, transitions and ending to match the sequence. Reduce musical density under dialogue and listen on the playback devices the audience will use. A quiet laptop speaker can expose a balance problem that studio headphones hide. Compare the generated starting point with the final arrangement so the team can judge how much human production work was required.
Before publishing, inspect the composition’s licence in its download view and retain the record with the project. The licensing help article explains that the route differs across Free, Standard and Pro. Use a plan eligible for the actual organisation and destination. The initial experiment should not be released commercially merely because downloading a file was technically possible.
04 / PricingThe licence changes with the plan and the customer
The pricing section displayed euro prices excluding VAT on 28 October 2026. The annual plans show a monthly equivalent billed annually. Their rights and download limits differ; the entry plan is not a general commercial soundtrack licence.
| Route | Commercial basis | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| Free | €0; three downloads/month; non-commercial use and attribution | Keep the work outside commercial promotion. |
| Standard Annually | €11/month equivalent plus VAT, billed annually; 15 downloads/month | Monetisation is limited to the named social platforms. |
| Pro Annually | €33/month equivalent plus VAT, billed annually; 300 downloads/month | Check customer eligibility and composition rights. |
| Enterprise | Custom plan required for qualifying businesses | Agree scope with AIVA before production. |
Individual-plan information from AIVA pricing and the EULA, consulted 28 October 2026.
The EULA defines an Enterprise as a business with at least three employees and more than the stated $300,000 threshold in revenue in the previous year, and directs it to a custom plan. Its Individual category includes a person or a small business below the stated staff or revenue threshold. A purchaser should check that definition directly rather than assuming an individual Pro subscription covers a larger employer.
Standard permits monetisation on YouTube, Twitch, TikTok and Instagram, while AIVA retains copyright under that plan. Pro describes an assignment of the composition’s copyright. These are the supplier’s contractual statements, not a finding that every AI-generated element is legally protectable in every jurisdiction. They also do not remove the obligation to hold rights in material uploaded as an influence.
The annual equivalents imply €132 for Standard and €396 for Pro before VAT over twelve months; that is simple arithmetic, not a monthly cancellation offer. Download capacity is another planning constraint. If several variants are needed for one project, count those exports and verify how the account treats them. A plan should be selected for the rights and production requirements together, rather than for the lowest displayed monthly equivalent.
05 / DistinctionsExport and rights records support a longer production process
AIVA’s export routes make it possible to evaluate the generated composition separately from its initial sound. This is valuable when an editor wants to change a musical passage without starting a new generation from scratch. The workflow can preserve a useful idea while replacing its presentation. Whether that saves time depends on the quality of the starting material and the producer’s familiarity with MIDI or audio editing.
The subscription-change help article says Pro users retain rights to compositions already owned after cancellation, and explains the effect of upgrading on earlier compositions. This help article is older documentation still served by AIVA; use the current EULA and the licence shown for the specific composition as the operational reference, and resolve any mismatch before release.
The company also provides desktop applications for macOS, Windows and Linux. That offers an access option for a production workstation, but this review did not install those applications or verify offline behaviour. An installable application should not be assumed to make the generation service independent of an account or network connection.
06 / QuestionsAn uploaded influence is a consequential permission decision
The EULA grants AIVA a broad, perpetual licence to train its systems on an uploaded influence and places responsibility for third-party rights on the uploader. That is a material distinction from merely using a private reference track in a local edit. Do not upload a client’s unreleased composition or another artist’s recording without establishing that the intended permission covers this use.
Public product material does not establish how well a particular style model follows a brief, how much arrangement work will remain or whether a generated cue resembles a specific existing work. Test musical usefulness on representative material and keep a human listening review. We did not evaluate originality, audio fidelity or the quality of exported MIDI. The help pages’ older update dates are retained as a limitation rather than presented as newly written guidance.
For a reusable music library, agree a naming and licence-record convention before generating many variations. Otherwise the file that an editor eventually uses may be disconnected from the account and plan under which its rights were recorded. The practical control is a clear record for each accepted composition and the finished project it supports.
07 / DecisionChoose an editable starting point with the right permissions
AIVA is a useful candidate when a creator wants to participate in the composition process after generation. Evaluate one cue from brief through export and final edit, then check the rights for its intended destination. A strong result should be both musically useful and straightforward to document for the next person who handles the project.
Test an instrumental cue
Compare the generated structure with the amount of arranging required to fit the picture.
Match rights to distribution
Check platform restrictions, Pro eligibility and the saved composition licence.
Use the enterprise route
Apply the EULA’s customer definition and agree terms before uploading protected source music.
