Dialpad combines business communications, customer support, sales outreach and AI self-service. Its practical attraction is the connection between the conversation and the work around it: finding an answer, coaching an employee, summarizing a call and handing a customer to a person. Choosing Dialpad therefore begins with the type of team and interaction being supported. A business phone subscription, a contact-center license and an autonomous agent are different purchases even when they share the same brand.
- 01Best fit Teams that want calling and conversation intelligence in the same operating environment.
- 02Important boundary Connect, Support and Sell have different entitlements; AI Agent uses separate conversation credits.
- 03Research scope Public sources reviewed on 11 October 2026; the proposed workflow has not been tested by Sequenced.
01 / ProductOne company with several conversation products
The Dialpad AI overview places AI across Connect, Support, Sell and AI Agents. Connect covers everyday communications. Support adds contact-center operations; Sell addresses sales outreach and coaching. Across the portfolio, Dialpad describes transcription, recaps, suggested action items and tools for helping employees during conversations. Those functions are easier to understand as a sequence around a call than as one undifferentiated AI assistant.
There are also two forms of customer-facing AI. The AI Agent documentation distinguishes generative agents that answer using knowledge from agentic agents that can use tools and execute workflows. It explicitly labels the Agentic AI Chatbot an Early Adopter Program offering that is not available to every user. That qualification matters more than a broad homepage invitation to automate customer service.
The company is relevant to an AI shortlist because intelligence sits within communications operations, where context arrives continuously and employees need answers while a customer is waiting. Its vendor-reported accuracy and savings are not measurements of your calls. A useful evaluation separates the quality of speech recognition, the reliability of the knowledge answer and the correctness of any subsequent action.
02 / AudienceChoose the operating team before choosing the AI feature
A support manager handling queues, transfers and callbacks should begin with Support. A sales manager reviewing discovery calls should inspect Sell. A distributed business needing ordinary calling and meeting notes may find Connect sufficient. The feature comparison explicitly says a Connect license does not confer the Support contact-center entitlements. Departments and contact centers are not interchangeable merely because both distribute calls.
This distinction changes implementation effort. Moving a support queue involves opening hours, skills, recordings, fallback numbers and the people responsible for exceptions. Adding meeting recaps is a smaller operational change. Buying the broadest plan before identifying that job can leave a team paying for capabilities it has neither configured nor staffed.
For a communications-wide comparison, our Zoom blueprint examines another environment connecting meetings, telephony and AI. Our Intercom blueprint is useful when the main problem is support knowledge and digital service. Compare the location of the customer conversation and the existing system of record before comparing a list of AI features.
03 / WorkflowProposed workflow for support knowledge and human handoff
Consider a proposed pilot for a software vendor answering subscription-management questions on its help site. Start with a generative agent that explains approved policy and transfers account-specific disputes to staff. This example does not assume access to the early-adopter agentic product and does not give the bot permission to cancel subscriptions or issue credits. Sequenced has not run this pilot.
An administrator would follow the generative-agent setup guide. It requires a Company or Office Admin; connecting the chatbot to a contact center requires a Digital Contact Center with a Webchat channel. Establish those prerequisites before writing answers. Configure the customer-facing name separately from the internal name so visitors understand which assistant is speaking.
Create a small, approved knowledge collection covering renewal dates, cancellation steps and where customers can find invoices. The guide distinguishes connected sources, which synchronize, from uploaded documents that must be replaced manually when changed. Assign a policy owner to the selected collection. A retrieval system can accurately repeat obsolete instructions if nobody owns their publication and retirement.
Prepare questions that mix two intentions, such as finding an invoice and disputing a renewal. The intended result is an explanation of the documented invoice path plus a handoff for the disputed charge. Ask the reviewer to inspect the source behind the answer, not just whether the response sounds helpful. Include a question for which the collection contains no answer.
At handoff, check what the employee actually receives: the question, the bot's answer and the reason for escalation. Have the employee resolve the dispute in the existing account system. An answer that promises a refund is a failure when no authorized person or transaction has approved it, even if the conversation ends politely and quickly.
Finally, change one approved policy and repeat the affected cases after the relevant synchronization. This tests the update process rather than only the initial setup. Record correct answers, unnecessary escalations, unsupported claims and successful handoffs separately. Reducing the number of human contacts is useful only when customers still reach a correct and observable outcome.
04 / PricingSeparate employee licenses from AI conversation credits
The current pricing page describes a pool of AI Agent Credits and directs buyers to sales. It does not expose a universal dollar tariff for the AI Agent scope in the readable page reviewed. We therefore do not carry forward older Connect or contact-center prices as if they purchased this newer automation product.
The credit rules define a billable session around a customer interaction, a lookup or task, and session closure. A transfer to a human does not necessarily avoid the charge. Old Speech IVR or Omnichannel session bundles do not automatically transfer to the new AI Agent product. Confirm the exact credit schedule and the account's recharge behavior in a proposal.
A pilot budget should distinguish employee access, the digital channel, AI use and telephony. A conversation count is not the same as a resolved-case count: a customer might receive information and still need staff. Keep a record of both so the business can compare cost per handled interaction with cost per completed request.
| Purchase | Published basis | Buying implication |
|---|---|---|
| Connect / Support / Sell | Separate employee products and plan tiers | Select the team workflow before adding AI. |
| AI Agent | Conversation-based credit pool | Obtain the per-session credit rate and pool terms. |
| Transferred session | Can remain billable after a lookup or task | Measure resolution independently of billed sessions. |
| Legacy AI bundles | Do not automatically apply to new AI Agent | Reconcile entitlements before migration. |

05 / DistinctionsAssistance can share the same conversation context
Dialpad's portfolio brings customer automation and employee guidance close to the calling workflow. That makes it possible to evaluate the entire transition from initial question to employee response instead of testing a chatbot in isolation. The important evidence is whether context remains useful as responsibility moves between systems and people, not whether each feature works in a separate demonstration.
The AI platform page also describes automated scoring and coaching. These can help supervisors locate patterns that a small sample of calls might miss. Treat a generated score as a signal for review. A difficult policy constraint or an incorrectly transcribed customer statement can influence the result without showing that the employee performed poorly.
There is value in staged adoption. A team can first improve the quality of knowledge used by staff, then use the same approved material for customer self-service. That sequence produces concrete feedback about missing policy details before a customer-facing agent is expected to navigate them independently.
06 / QuestionsResolve access and knowledge freshness explicitly
Ask which exact agent type is enabled for the proposed account and channel. The early-adopter notice means a sales demonstration of an agentic workflow is insufficient evidence of general account eligibility. If task execution becomes part of a later project, define its permissions and transaction checks separately from the answering pilot.
For uploaded material, determine who replaces files and how removal is verified. For connected knowledge, establish the expected update interval and test what happens while a policy change is propagating. This is particularly important for billing and service restrictions, where a previously correct answer can become harmful without any failure of language generation.
The public pages establish documented functions and plan distinctions; they do not establish performance for every language, accent, recording condition or terminology set. Use representative conversations and retain employee correction paths. Approve expansion because those cases worked and the team can operate the system, rather than because a broad AI claim sounds reassuring.
07 / DecisionMatch the rollout to a measurable communication job
Dialpad is worth evaluating when the business wants AI to help with the work surrounding customer conversations as well as the communication itself. Begin with the product that owns the interaction, establish the necessary licenses and channels, and then test the handoff and record quality. Success should mean less avoidable work without losing the customer's context or the employee's authority.
A support queue needs better answers
Pilot approved knowledge and one well-defined human handoff in the appropriate Support environment.
Employees mainly need call notes
Inspect Connect recaps and transcripts before purchasing customer automation.
You need autonomous account changes
Confirm agentic access, transaction permissions and separate credit terms before promising execution.
